Our definition of beauty so often is shaped by images and visual content presented to us from a young age. We shape our perception of what feels and looks beautiful not by our own standards but by external information that influence us to buy into beauty notions that become our core beliefs. As we learn to take onboard these external narratives of what beauty looks like we compare ourselves to these images and disregard our own beauty instead. We look in the mirror and we start to negatively pick ourselves apart. In doing so we lose our own definition of beauty. We start looking at ourselves through the lens that we are not enough as we are. So often feeling like we need fixing, this could not be further from the truth. We are whole human beings with limitless potential, we just need to discover our own wholeness and inner wisdom.
Over the years I have compared myself to images, may I add there is nothing wrong with looking for inspiration and playing artistic characters that is so much fun. However, when we become someone else in the process forgetting our own true beauty, worth and self-confidence that is when it often becomes a problem and challenge. I am going through a beautiful transformation where I am unlearning everything I thought I had to be in order feel beautiful. When we become awake, aware and in harmony with our own lives we become powerful souls reclaiming our own personal freedom. Instead of becoming followers we become confident leaders in our own lives and choices. We take ownership and responsibility over our own lives and the path we choose for our own mind, body and soul.
I am extremely careful about who I follow on social media, what I read daily, listen to and take onboard. I value my time and I am fully aware that when I open my life to information that encourage me feel bad, negative or fearful I have chosen to do so freely.
When we invest in ourselves we are investing in our mindset and attitude towards our own journey. When we think about our time gifted to us, are we spending it wisely?
I have found the first step to truly waking up to myself and welcoming who I am with open arms is becoming aware of my choices, following my own inner compass and living by my own rules on what feels good for me. You are a beautiful soul of love and light, become aware of your true potential to be a unique human being. Let go of comparing your journey with others and become the captain of your own ship and create your own masterpiece. Let your beauty shine and walk tall in your own definition of beauty.
