It’s so easy to buy into an illusion of what we should be and how our lives should look. Of late I have been checking in with myself more often. Listening to the voice and flow of my own life and not buying into the hype, nonsense and noise of the outside world. I have made an effort to filter what I read, listen to, who I surround myself with and what I watch. Social media is such a wonderful platform to keep in touch with our friends and family but at the same time whilst scrolling through images of people’s perfect lives and orchestrated images that showcase perfection it’s so easy to see how more people are feeling “shit” about themselves. I wish I could sugar coat this fact but it is what it is. Life as we know it is made up of ups, downs, highs, lows and everything in between. There are days when we feel good, joyful and happy and there are days when we feel crap about ourselves. This is a fact of life; there are good days and bad.
Personally I feel like I have to work harder at staying awake and aware of what I am being fed and what I buy into on a daily basis. I check in with myself throughout the day and see how I am feeling. What do I feel like when I walk away from a magazine stand only seeing perfect images of glamourous people or entrepreneurs net worth splatted all over the covers as opposed to reading their story for what it’s worth in all it’s honest glory. What do I feel like when I see the rise of more content playing and feeding our fears and insecurities questioning “are we enough” and “do we have enough”. This restless notion burning and yearning inside to get a quick fix and an instant high through consumption and band aid solutions.
Feeling good about yourself is an inside job; it’s knowing that you are enough and that you being “inflow with your own life” is what it is all about. Check in with your mind, body and soul. Feel what is right for you without getting distracted from the outside world, noise and clutter. Create your own definition of success and know that you in your own unique magnificent splendour are enough.
Comparing your life with others is such a total waste of time and energy. Trying to look and be someone else and copy their lives is such a waste of your own life. We live in a world where the crux of life has become duplication. We strive to look the same, sound the same and live the same lives. Life can be so colourful and magical when we bring ourselves to the table as we are. We are created differently and so we should celebrate our differences and unique attributes as opposed to diminishing our own self-worth. Work at staying awake, listen to your life and celebrate your life for what it is.
I hope my words inspired you to feel good about yourself.
