Over the past few years I have gained over 10 kg. I had moved from South Africa to Brisbane over 10 years ago, got married, had my son, changed careers, adapted to a new country and started all over. (I was 22 years old at the time). For a long time I was trying to find myself in all of those changes I was experiencing. I often turned to food as a source of comfort and solace. When I felt down in the dumps, alone, isolated and without focus I would turn to sugar and crappy food as a way of feeling more energised and uplifted. Reflecting back, my choices around food was not a very healthy one.
I remember looking at my body in the mirror and I felt sad about how I had treated my beautiful body and how I neglected my own self-care. Not to mention having an awakening after having my gallbladder removed, touch wood I have never been to a hospital before except for having my son.
I remember purchasing clothing to cover up my fat and would try to feel good about myself in making those uninspired purchases. Truth of the matter, those purchases did not make me feel truly good about myself, it was a quick fix but not a long-term solution.
Over the past 10 years I have learnt so much about myself and my determination, focus and resilience. I am learning to stop hiding behind a fortress of excuses and get myself back to pushing through my bad habits, yes bad lazy habits repeating itself. I am learning to pay attention to how I feel and what I put into my body. My intention to be 100% honest with you is not to work out because I want to look skinnier, have killer abs or anything like that. I want to work out to feel good about myself, I am a real woman with real curves and an hourglass body shape. I never want to lose my figure and I love every ounce of myself flaws and all. My true objective is to wake up feeling good about myself mind, body and soul. I want to feel positive in my mind and in my thoughts. I do believe that success is a mindset, when you become focused you get so much more done in your life. Your health is your wealth and without your health, you have nothing! We owe it to ourselves to take care of ourselves we deserve to feel good about our mind, body and soul.
Think about it, your body is a miracle, a blessing and your vehicle to experiencing life. Become aware of how you treat your body and become focused on what you want out of life. Create goals around your health, your life, your relationships and your career. When you have something to look forward to you become the captain of your ship. You become driven by your choices; you become motivated by your life force and goals.
You only live once, make this a “once in a lifetime opportunity to learn and grow” and to let go of old habits that no longer serve you and your life.
