Every space holds energy and has a direct impact on how we feel about ourselves. Our wardrobes play such a huge part in how we express ourselves on a daily basis. As I am writing this article I am looking at my wardrobe and let me say I have given away many of my clothing pieces that I no longer wear. As I was trying on every item in my wardrobe I submerged myself in how I had felt whilst wearing this clothing item. I asked myself this one question, how do you feel in this clothing item you have on? If there was a resounding YES I love it!!!! This was a keeper and if I felt drained, washed out and uninspired it was a big NO. As I was looking at the pile of clothes I was about to donate, I had a moment. I thought about the reasons why these clothing items had made its way into my closet in the first place.
- Did I love it at the time?
- Was it an impulse buy?
- Was it an emotional purchase?
- Was it trend based?
- Was this item a colour that complimented my skin tone?
- Did this item fit my body shape?
- Was this item a once off print that I would toss the next season?
Most importantly if I were to pin the actual money notes onto this item would it break my heart tossing away cash? The answer is yes it would be disappointing wasting money. Why not wear an item twice or as many times as you like. Does it really matter that we need to buy something new every single time or can we mix and match. Do we dress to feel good about who we are or to impress others.
These days I make sure my items tick every box and I ask myself a few questions before I make a purchase. If I am unsure I walk away and think about it. If I am having a crappy day I stay away from the shops or shopping centres, as I know I will purchase an item just to feel good about myself instantly. Knowing that I will regret this purchase later and it’s going to be tossed.
Life is about making choices and living in a space of awareness. When we are fully awake and aware of our lives we become more present in our decisions.
